Lactobacillus acidophilus NU-11 is a new probiotic strain for the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, supported by scientific evidence from a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, prospective clinical trial.
Key findings include lower incidence, shorter duration, and delayed onset of diarrhea. In subjects aged ≤52 years, no participants in the probiotic group experienced diarrhea, with statistically significant differences compared to placebo, highlighting greater effectiveness in younger individuals. A trend toward firmer stool consistency was observed, with significant reduction in type 7 stools. Participants reported fewer symptoms, including abdominal pain and weakness, along with improved appetite and enhanced ability to carry out daily activities. Lactobacillus acidophilus NU-11 was safe and well tolerated, with no adverse effects reported throughout the study.
